Salvation? (Spoilers)

Its been a while. University just gets me down on my writting, with the 8,000 words i just had to write in the last few weeks along with some other stuff its not too hard to see why i havnt been in the blogging mood the last month.

So Uni has been pretty good, im on break now and really i dont know what to do with myself. I guess I'd rather be bored in a lecture than at home.

So I did go see Star Trek back when it came out and wow i was pretty impressed by it. While it was no "Wrath of Khan" it did feel fresh and exciting, probably due to the 'splosions and the lense flares every few seconds. It was a perfect popcorn movie, plot holes everywhere with no clear character motivation to be seen. But hey if i wanted that id go watch 'the reader' or someother Oscar nominated drivel. It was exactly what i expected, Star Trek for the new hip kids of today with all their boomboxes and such. And hey like "The Voyage Home" proved Star Trek can be fun without being rediculously philosophical (Im looking at you "Insurrection")....(I just realised how nerdy that was) anyway point is as a lifelong Trekker I loved which means the Star Trek ladder now goes...

1. Wrath of Khan
2. First Contact
3. Star Trek

So my next cinematic adventure was to see "Terminator: Salvation". After the dissapointing 3rd outing in the franchise i felt the series was done with, the war had happened and John would just kick cyborg ass in the future and eventually lead to back to T1. I was never really interested in the Future war stuff and as a kid i fast forewarded the parts in T2 but hey i was a kid and really i just wanted to see arnie shoot stuff. thats why i love "Commando". Anyway Salvation was starting to interest me with its trailers and....well Christian Bale-ness. I was eagerly awaiting this film probably more than Watchmen and i can say in totally honesty....I was not let down. This movie was one of the best times ive had at the cinema, possibly the best this year. Now i know its not the most loved film this year but really all the plot holes ive been given by other reviewers are actually answered in the plot. "oh why R teh Terminators capturing peoples? wouldnt they just killz them?" no, watch "The Terminator" again, Kyle says that he was in a camp that John broke him out of. "Oh hows did Johns get in teh bases so easys?" well for those who didnt pay attention....IT WAS A TRAP. really if you're not gonna watch a movie properly then you shouldnt review it. And really it's not hard to get this, Skynet goes on for a good long scene clearly starting Marcus was a trap. Now im not saying that if you didnt like this film you are a retard, im saying if you cant follow a plot that obvious you really shouldnt be writting about it. but dont worry im sure the millions of people on the internet will correct all these details for you.

As for complaints about Bale's voice, Get over it. seriously its not that bad. The rest of the cast did very well but after hearing the US cirtics praises Worthington's performance i was left a little undewhelmed but still good.

The best action movie ive seen since last years 'Quantum' and its left me hopeful for T5 which hopefully will continue the ass kicking start they have here.

Anyway in real life stuff has been happening too, i seriously dont know where to stand with some people. they confuse the hell out of me and i dont understand why the do what they do. still i can figure out all of humanities confusedness. i just know there are some journeys people have to take without me and thats ok but seriously does everyone have to at once? i find my self increasing low on friends. anyway...

"I'm coming for blood"

So life had been pretty busy and that with all the usual uni things....well essays. anyway so lets talk about stuff then. Im gonna start with the most recent thing which was seeing 'Wolverine' on Saturday. possible spoilers.

Although not a bad film 'Wolverine' tries very very hard to be an epic and why shouldnt it for a character with such a rich history. However on one point most of the actual comic book history of Logan is ignored and chopped up into a fantastic opening credit sequence. infact that is pretty much the best part of the film (which is what alot of people said about "Watchmen" but in this case it's true). The film skips a signifigant part of Logan's life and therefore alot of the depth that people like Miller gave him in the comics (such as the whole Japan bussiness). This aside the film still has many more flaws, the jump from a childhood Logan to one that has been a veteran of four wars happens in about ten minutes. Then all of sudden everything happens with little set up, he joins a team, leaves the team then jump ahead six years to having a wife. What just happened? a poorly constructed romance story begins and Sabertooth is suddenly killing the old team. The film jumps around so much it feels like im having some jittery fanboy recite the movie to me. its like someone cut out all the character development and even movement of characters. thoughout people pop out of nowhere in ways that make no real sense what so ever. not only that but we hear "I'm coming for you" said into radio much like John Rambo. By the end we have magic bullets and a Deadpool that is an insult to the character. perhaps as a longtime fan a Logan im a little biased but the more i think about this film the more i see the missed oppertunity that it was.

However this an entertaining film with lots of Kablam which is more than worth seeing.

So now thats out of the way we can talk about what really matters.

Friday night the youth went to Intencity. House of the Dead 2 is still entertaining.

Actually Saturday was a pretty busy day, i had lunch with steve and then went to obviously see Wolverine with Adriel who i hadn't seen in about 5 months. for the first time in a while i actually felt like i was back at school. in the way that because i hadnt seen Adriel this year it felt like some sort of freaky time warp. yeah.

That night I saw Topsy and hung with him for a bit before getting dinner with Matt at university hill.

I Finally got to play GTA4 at Pete's. I gotta say....impressive. the world that Rockstar have developed in that game is so detailed and realistic*. gotta get a copy of it soon to play around with....along with a lot of other games *sigh*.....Im still playing Ace Attorney too these days....damn point and click games are so addictive.

Oh yeah i also got the 5th season of MacGyver. which seriously made me question how far out they could actually push the series. in the opener Mac uses an ancient Laser built by an alchemist which consists of....a rock, three septers, a "mirror" and a big ruby. My "everything was actually possible on MacGyver" arguement is taking huge blows this season. Still have to buy season 6 and 7.

Thats about all i can actually recall right now...i can never seem to remember all the exciting things that happen these days *

*In comparrison to the rest of the franchise
**that was sarcasm

So I guess...

Damn Fine Coffee....

yes...i know i cant stick to a weekly schedule. so I've been on a weeks vacation from uni for easter in which ive done well i guess a moderate amount. Last Week I finally watched "A Better Tomorrow" which i bought a while back. Wow.

its rated as the 2nd best chinese film ever and i think it deserves it. something that is desguised as an action film actually carrys a dramamtic and meaningful story. i wonder why John Woo couldnt make any western films as good as this.
Really hanging out to see "Hard Boiled" now

Last saturday was Jen's 22nd which was pretty cool, we played some poker and joked around the whole night.

So yeah...on Thursday Matt came around to do some filming of the random parts in our dorito ad entry...we included him running around and throwing corn chips into the air.

Yesterday I went to the city with Matt to do the comic rounds. I picked up the next installment of the new "Punisher" series i was praising a few months back and it still is going strong.
However i also broke one of my sacred rules. I bought manga. Star Trek Manga. which i have to admit is pretty good. including a story that involves Kirk throwing down with a Emotion emitting teddy bear. Only could happen in Manga.

Matt picked up a preview of "Terminator Salvation" comic and the end of the prequel to the film. I gotta say the prequel was dissapointing and i really failed to be excited by it. I didnt care at all for what was going on in it. ah well.

Also picked up another chinese film called "Tiger on the beat" that im planning on watching tomorrow night some time.

Last night i had a sports night at youth which i was looking foreward to most of the week. It was fun apart from the pain i gained.

Today I was wrecked from the previous night and found that my crappy shoes had infact ripped off parts of my skin...pretty deep too. I couldnt walk and have been in slippers all day...i still cant walk properly. ugh.

So i made one trip out to pick up the lay-by I'd had away for a while and to get some lunch. I came back and started work on an essay for Cinema Studies. I'm almost done.

The lay-by was the complete "Twin Peaks". taking a break from essay writting i watched the pilot and a few episodes. again this is a fantastic show. David Lynch proves to be the hype on this one. I highly recommend seeing this. Special Agent Dale Cooper is without a doubt one of the best characters ive seen in a while.

ok so im running on a bit. I found some old-ish skits from mad tv on youtube that i cant stop watching. check this one out

So with that i wont run on a rant on how fox should not cancel "The Sarah Connor chronicles". but if they do you will hear my anger in one of these posts.

Ok im out for the night

Ace of Kidneys

So again im writting this in the morning which may become the norm from now on. not that it really matters to anyone.

clocked Need for Speed: Undercover on monday so now im missing my gaming fix. actually i started playing Ace Attorney: Justice for All again so that might do for now.

Finally watched 12 Monkeys the other day aswell after having it on DVD for like 3 weeks. wow. i was pretty impressed by it and by the fact that it still is pretty creepy in places. If you havn't seen it do so now, its worth it.

So yesterday i had my first real assesment at uni for media studies which was an oral presentaion on genre theory. Anyway it went fantastically well thanks to great work of the whole group.

so thats some good news

Finally got some more devlopment on the whole Quantum of Solace DVD issue which is that a re-release will happen in the future with more special features a-la casino royale's 3 disc re-release. so i guess i'll just purchase the blu-ray for now and buy the later re-release.

im still pissed about it though

last night i stumbeled upon this which has both me and Matt addicted to watching, check it out.

Going bowling with the youth tonight which im looking foreward to heaps. cant wait.

Pre-production on one of my films has pretty much started with script writting stage. its got me all fired up to know stuff is moving even if just a tiny little bit. Ezekiel better work hard on that script.

jeez its very film noir out my window right now. so much rain and darkness. yes i have official ran outn of things to say...so on that note

Give up the War

Wow, I think this is the first time ive posted a blog in the morning. ever. anyway i ment to do this last week. been busy. kinda.

so whats been happening you ask? well you didnt but your here so you must want to know. other wise leave now and dont return.

so first off i've recently borrowed "Need For Speed: Undercover" from Simon and I'm addicted to its repetative gameplay. seriously incredibly repetative but the car chases are just so damn fun that i cant put it down. already half way through it. Pretty good for someone who sucks at and hates car games that dont involve grand theft.

Went to Northland with Matt on tuesday to go buy a excercise book as i didnt have one for uni. did the usual around there and found something that nearly made my head explode. The little known of "Star Trek: The Animated Series" (which ive known has been on dvd for ages, thats not the explodey part) for $24. last i checked JB had it for $95 or so. damn right i picked that thing up, still as good as i remember it as when i used to watch it a 3am...well i only saw it twice...and it was the same episode but still...
if you like star trek or classic animation pick it up aswell.

Saw "Tron" the other day too. i like. alot.

So inbetween Need for Speed and Star Trek ive been listening to some new musics that i bought. mainly more Starflyer 59 (only 2 more albums and ive got the whole discography) in particular "Leave here a stranger" which is fantastic as always. Also got some stuff from House of Wires which is worth checking out, especially the songs "busy" and "when words fall"
Downloaded something by Kylie last night too. i feel so dirty now. Her duet with Nick Cave done sometime in the past is actually pretty good and y'know worth listening to even with Kylie in it.

Anyway....Rant time. "Quantum of Solace" was released on DVD last week. to my shock and horror we have only been given a single disc edition on DVD where the rest of the world is getting a two disc. why!?. well the special features are on the blu ray version so maybe they are trying to hint at something. Fox (who is handling the distribution after sony screwed up with casino royale) has a track record of releasing single discs here and special editions in the rest of the world. two other examples of this were "AvP", "Predator 2" and even "AvP:R". pfft like i needed another reason to be pissed at 20th century fox.

so thats it really, i dont have a copy of Quantum yet and things are pretty cool right now. picked up a poster for myself and Matt at uni. Got the teaser poster for "Goldeneye" for $8.
Anyhow

So another week rolls by, I am alittle taken back that it's been a week since Watchmen. weeks really fly by these days.

Uni has gotten much better over the last few days with all the tutorials. ive made new friends in 3 of them which for me is pretty darn good. So for once in my life im getting along with people which is always good.

Monday we watched "Kiss Kiss,Bang Bang" in cinema studies which was awesomely funny. i absolutly loved it. borrowing from pop culture with references every few minutes its a film nerd's dream. Downey Jr. is on form as always and Kilmer is actually likable in this. see it. NOW! GET TO THE CHOPPA!

So that was heaps of fun, the media lecture was ugh. I really really really don't like this lecturer.

picked up my PSP yesterday for the first time in forever and I still and always will uphold that Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror is the bestest ever game on PSP. Im sure Matt will disagree lol.

Today was pretty good, had to go and rescue Alicia as her car had broken down and she had no one else to come to help. which i had no problem doing.

Went to uni and did my things, as i do.

Came home and finally after about three weeks sat down and watched 'Logan's Run'. Fairly impressive, i liked it alot. For some Classic '70s sci-fi i'd reccomend it anyday. ah with the crazy robot that freezes things and the clearly model city. Great Stuff. see that and 'Rollerball' together and you've got a winning combination. that said i did like 'Rollerball' much more, mainly because of it's action sequences.

So thats it this week other than the outrage i had at my anthropology lecture seeing something using vista on a macbook. WHY!?? damn people and their idiocy. just by a damn normal laptop if your going to run windows...ugh!.

Oh and one more thing, I've started up a blogspot thing which will essentially be this blog posted in two places. so if your reading this on blogger than be aware this is also on myspace. im increasing audience!...probably not but eh.

that is all for now.
